23/24 Topps Chrome Basketball is BACK after a 15 year absence on the market. The set that started with Kobe & Iverson rookies returns to host another generational set of rookies, headlined by the phenomenon Victor Wembanyama.
Beginning in 1996 & serving purpose until 2009, Chrome has been home to some of the biggest cards of our modern era, including Lebron James & Steph Curry Rookie Cards.
Chrome is traditionally known as one of the most popular and highly collectable sets amongst fans. We imagine this will still be the case, however for this first release things are going to be a little bit different. Due to Fanatics/Topps not having the full NBA License until 2025, this first release will be devoid of league & team logos and trademarks. We will still have the stunning design and artistry that chrome always provides, however things may look a little different.
LEBRON & WEMBY SIGN!
Oh baby - how about Autos for LEBRON JAMES & VICTOR WEMBANYAMA?
That's right, with LeBron & Wemby both signing exclusive deals with Fanatics/Topps, this means we will be seeing Autographed cards for these 2 megastars!
LeBron is checklisted to have 2 Autographs in the set. 1 is a traditional Chrome Auto for the LA Lakers, the other is a 'LeBron James Time Machine Auto' in the Cavs Uniform. The Chrome Auto appears to come in Gold, Black, Red & Superfractor - however the Time Machine Auto looks to be only Red (/5) & Superfractor. Pack odds for LeBrons Chrome Auto /50 sit at 1:58'121. These will be LeBrons first solo autos since he agreed to leave Upper Deck for Fanatics.
Wembanyama is checklisted to have 3 Autos in the product - Certified Rookies, 1972 Auto & a Traditional Topps Chrome Auto. With some groundbreaking sales from 2022 Bowman Wemby Autos, it is clear that these Chrome Autos for Wemby will be an absolute mammoth chase for punters.
Who else is signing?
Topps Chrome Basketball will be home to many new Rookie Autos, including the likes of: Scoot Henderson, Brandon Miller, Cam Whitmore, Anthony Black & More! With Panini losing out on the licenses to some of these rookies, this means the Topps Chrome Rookie Autos will be some of the most sort after cards of the year for these guys.
We are still blessed up with an absolutely loaded Vet Auto Checklist, including the likes of: Jayson Tatum, Larry Bird, Tyrese Haliburton, Jerry West, Shaq, Bill Walton, Jalen Brunson, David Robinson, Ray Allen, Penny & a ton more.
What else can we expect?
As always, Topps Chrome is set to feature a stunning lineup of inserts & Short Prints (SPs) to chase. With a mix of flavours new & old, Topps have called some inserts a "nostalgic nod to a Classic Insert from the 1990s". These throwback style inserts include SPs: Superfly, Expose, Lets Go! & Rock Stars. Radiating Rookies & Helix SPs also feature - which have been used recently in Topps Chrome Baseball.
As well as SPs, Chrome will feature a new set of inserts including: Youthquake, Finesse, Destiny, Coast to Coast & Seasons Best.
What's Missing?
Outside the obvious lack of licensing, there is a few things that we'll miss in Topps Chrome. The main loss of these comes in the way of Panini signed athletes who either don't feature in the set at all, or only feature in glimpses.
Some big names that we are missing from the set include: Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson & the Thompson Twins. For now we will have to forego chasing these superstars, but luckily Topps have provided one hell of a reinforcement list of incredible autos & chases for all the teams missing their megastar.

Hobby boxes of 23/24 Topps Chrome Basketball will be home to 12 packs with 8 cards per box. Each box will have 2 Autographed Cards. Cases will hold 12 Boxes.

Overall Topps Chome Basketball is set to be an INCREDIBLE set with some of the biggest chases we're likely to see all year. Topps always pull through when it comes to putting together a Chrome product and we're going to see nothing short of that in 23/24 Topps Chrome Basketball.
